Evaluation of accuracy and reliability of measuring fuel consumption

Abstract

The necessity of determining the actual value of fuel consumption during the operation of road vehicles is considered. The fuel consumption can be used to assess the complexity of operating conditions, the technical condition of the vehicle, adjust the frequency of technical impacts, and calculate the life of the machines. The cost of the transport operation and the intensity of environmental pollution depend on fuel consumption. Legislation limits fuel consumption, limits the accuracy of measurements and test conditions. The factors affecting the measurement of fuel consumption are con-sidered. Fuel consumption is determined by analytical and experimental methods. Actual fuel consumption is measured by the fuel level in the tank, according to the data from the controller of the engine control unit (k-line, CAN Buss), by measuring the flow of fuel entering the fuel line from the tank to the nozzles. In the latter case, indirect methods of measuring the flow are used: measuring the force effect of the flow, pressure drop, flow rate, time of filling the measured volume. The advantages and disadvantages of the main types of fuel flow meter are analyzed. Research was conducted on a piston fuel flow meter. After the measurement, it is necessary to perform the subsequent analog, analog-to-digital and numerical conversion. A flow meter calibration scheme has been developed. The estimation of the total error. The absolute and relative error values are obtained over the entire range of the measured indicator. The measurement results were processed by regression analysis. The coefficients of linear adjustment of the working volume of the fuel flow meter are obtained. The maximum error was estimated by the coefficient of determination. It is proposed to include in the program of the flowmeter control controller the procedure for correcting and accounting for errors. Conclusions and recommendations are developed, the main ways of further research are indicated.
