Evaluation of the articulated wheeled vehicle position stability in a side collision with an obstacle

Abstract

The sustainability of articulated wheel vehicle in a side collision with an obstacle due to skidding is evaluated. The criterion of the critical speed required for overturning, taking into account the structural characteristics of articulated vehicles is proposed. Set that changing the angles of the folding sections and the height of the obstacle provide the comprehensive impact on the proposed stability criterion. On example of articulated vehicle with a nominal pulling force of 30 kN is established that the critical speed in real conditions of operation can vary up to 15%. The obtained results can be used at the design and operation of articulated wheeled vehicles.
